Financial and Billing Information
Overview
Unlike many other states, Pennsylvania does not have a fertility care mandate. As a result, some insured patients have coverage for “diagnostics only”. If your insurance falls under this category, your initial infertility evaluation (x-rays, ultrasounds, semen analysis, hormone levels, etc) will usually be covered, as will any surgical procedures needed to correct abnormalities (for example, removal of an ovarian cyst). However, fertility treatments such as IVF may not be covered IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE “BASIC” POLICIES. If you are not sure of your benefits, we can verify them for you.
We understand that the cost of non-covered treatments may be a financial burden. Patients undergoing treatment cycles who do not have coverage for blood tests and ultrasound will be offered a significantly discounted rate for these procedures. On an individualized basis, payment plans can be set up.
Also keep in mind that in October and November, many companies hold open enrollment, where you may have the option of changing policies or being added to your partner’s policy and you may wish to explore these options. In addition, some companies allow payroll reductions with the funds placed in a FLEX account to be used for medical expenses. Fertility treatment is considered eligible for FLEX spending and can be listed like any other medical expense as an itemized tax deduction.
